How often have you set a goal and failed to reach it or just given up? Yep, me too! I probably can’t count all the goals I have bailed out on but there’s been a subtle shift in my thinking lately. I feel physically strong and mentally tougher. I needed a goal, a hard one, so I did it, I set one. I said it out loud a few weeks ago to a few friends & family and today I’m telling you. Truth be told it’s a little scary. That little voice kicks in, what if I can’t do it? what if I’m not good enough? what if I fail? Funny thing is I don’t want to go through life and what if anymore! I want to live to my full potential. So this girl is registered to run in May! Like literally run.
A year ago I’d say this goal was completely unattainable and I’d tell people that I couldn’t run to the corner of my street but today mind you I say today because tomorrow I will still have to convince myself I can do it but I am determined. I signed up for my first half marathon…..gulp. Yep, I did. I started running/walking a little over the summer with my son then a friend mentioned the couch to 5k app. I started that and it was pretty easy so I decided to shoot for something bigger and I landed at a half marathon. Some days I think I’m completely crazy but three and half weeks into running/walking 6 days a week I actually look forward to it, nuts right? Don’t get me wrong it’s HARD but in a good way. I ran/walked 5 miles in just over an hour last week and it was HARD but you know what? I did it and I’m still here and this weekend my goal on Sunday is 6 miles.
Maybe you’re wondering why I share this or think ok so big deal? Well, here’s why. Because doing the hard things is good, pushing yourself to do more is good, being the best version of you, setting a goal and working toward it is good and if I can do it so can you. Sometimes we just need a little encouragement, someone to tell you-you CAN do it. It’s never too late friends just go and do the thing!
