I have the best holiday decor tip to share with you! I love decorating for Christmas, but I don’t like to spend a lot on decorations that you can’t use year to year. Are you ready?
You can go to Home Depot and get the branches they cut off the bottom of the trees for free! They keep them in a bin right next to the tree wrapping station. They throw them away at the end of each day so plan on going later in the day. Much to the dismay of my family, I also picked through the garbage (just tree stuff) and took a few of the slices they cut off the bottom of the trees. I think the Home Depot workers thought I was a little wacky but they said “Sure go ahead, take what you want!”. You can buy a different bunch of fresh greens and make the freebies go even further. I do this a lot!
Uses for these little freebies.
Add some fresh greens to a faux wreath like I did here.
Use shears and cut the branches off the tree trimmings. I line my mantle with the fresh greens intermingled with lights. They look beautiful and cost nothing!
Use them to make your own fresh wreath with an inexpensive wire form.
Make Door hangers, and use small cuttings on Christmas packages.
I was so excited about tree slices. People sell these and I got them for…..FREE :) I let them dry out and then sanded them with my sander until they were smooth.
I am going to use them for candle stands on the tables Christmas day.
Here I used them for budget friendly table decor!
You could use them as a pretty vase filler or with other rustic elements like pinecones.
They would make darling place cards too, just paint and write or carve your guest’s names on them!
The possibilities are endless! I hope you found some new ways to use your fresh greens!
