If your house is anything like ours, the dishwasher gets a workout! Often I’m emptying it so I can fill it with the sink full of dishes that have accumulated while the dishwasher is going! I guess that’s what happens when you have teenagers in the house. I like to clean it every now and then (every couple of months). I find this to work well and it’s inexpensive!
I make sure it’s empty. I take out the drain in the bottom and rinse out (this can get gross). I don’t have one with a disposal built in. If it’s bad I’ll soak that piece in white vinegar and let sit and then rinse well. Then I pour an entire small bottle of vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher and let it sit for a few minutes and then run it on the hottest setting. I open the door about halfway through and let it sit for about 15 minutes and then let if finish running. Once that’s done I sprinkle about one cup of baking soda all over the bottom of the dishwasher and run a quick wash.
After that, I wipe down the sides and underneath with a damp cloth and then shine up the outside like my other appliances and sink.

Coming next week: I’ll share how I gave our bathroom a mini makeover on a tiny budget. I’ve got one more thing to finish. I’ve got a simple soup recipe, a sweet Valentine craft that you will fall in love with (get it!) and hopefully a handmade throw (if I can get that done!). Have a wonderful weekend and thank you SO much for coming by. It’s been a great week here at Love of Home!
