I don’t know why exactly but homemade bread and crusts are intimidating to me.
I always think they are too complicated or that it won’t turn out. (The exception is the No-Knead Bread),
More often than not I use store bought dough but every now and then I think I should make my own, no more excuses!
I got the recipe from Ms. Edie’s blog and I also made the garlic honey pizza, it might be my all-time favorite! Yep, it’s that good!
So here’s what you need:
3 cups flour
package of yeast (I had pizza crust yeast so I used that)
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt (I used Kosher)
1/3 cup olive oil
1 cup cold water
I used my Kitchen Aid mixer so I can only give you directions for this method.
Add first four ingredients to the mixer and put on low.
Add in water slowly and combine until pulls away from sides about 2-3 low/medium
If sticky add more flour and continue mixing for another 6 minutes for a total of about 8 minutes.
Add to well-oiled bowl and cover.
I turned my oven to the lowest possible temp for 5 minutes and then turned off and placed the covered bowl in there for about 3 hours. This is what it looked like.
Add your toppings and bake.
Honey garlic pizza!! Can you say YUM? Oh my word, this is amazing!!
Cover the crust with olive oil and a couple cloves of finely chopped garlic and sprinkle around. Add cheese. I used fontina and mozzarella and then drizzle liberally with honey.
Bake for about 13 minutes at 450 degrees. I use a Silpat on my sheet pan, no sticking! You could also use a pizza stone in the oven or on the grill.
Seriously you have to try this, you can thank me later.
I will have to try that dough for sure! I see you use a silpat mat, do you take the pizza off of it before you slice it? And do use that for all your baking? I think I need to get one. ; ) Have a good day Susan!!
Suz! This looks so yummy! Can’t wait to try it! XO
Hi! Yes, I slide it on the cutting board. I have two Silpats there are amazing!
