How To Make Granny’s Favorite Dishcloth

Did you know I wanted to open a yarn shop? It’s true, I did, when the kids were small I dreamed of a little charming shop filled with every color yard you could imagine.

When I was young my grandmother and my mom knitted and crocheted so I was around that my whole life.

I’m no expert knitter but there’s something about knitting and crochet.

One school year I crocheted a dozen scarves for gifts for teachers and people at school.

This year I thought I’d make some homemade soaps (How-to coming soon!) with my essential oils so, the dishcloths will go nicely with the soap.

I’ve seen this pattern a few places, it’s called Granny’s Favorite!

I liked it because it’s pretty simple and quick.

I used a cotton yarn called Lily Sugar & Cream.* They have fun colors too!

I used size 9 needles,  I like the Bamboo. *

I made two dishcloths with one ball. ($3.99). There are also smaller ones for $1.99.

Instructions

Cast on 4 sts.

Row 1: Knit one row.

Row 2: K2, YO, knit to the end of the row.

Repeat row 2 until there are 44 sts

Next row: K1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, knit to the end of the row.

Continue decreasing until 4 sts left. Cast off.

There are lots of great videos on knitting basics. My friend Edie makes this cloth  if you need knitting help.

Thanks for coming by today!! God Bless America!

Susan, I am not kidding you…I always had that same dream!! My mom used to crochet, I tried but was never very good at it. I still want to try knitting. ; ) But I’m telling you when I read your first two sentences it just made me smile…you took that right out of my head! I can still see the walls with dark wooden shelves made into cubes that were filled with all different colors and styles of yarn…so funny!!!

Susan you are a true master of the needle! My mother in law used to make a set of these wonderful dishcloths for me every year. They are indeed wonderful. I love your color selection.

I wanted to take a moment and thank you so very much for participating in the past week’s tour.
The event brought happiness to many. I received so many messages from individuals who so appreciated all of the wonderful tips, touches and gorgeous images. I am running a round up tour today for any who might have missed a glimpse of the beauty shared.

Again, my deepest thanks. Have a wonderful weekend.

I don’t knit, but I’m crocheting since my stroke and retirement. It’s good for my hands. And I like small projects that I can use as gifts. Any suggestions for size?
I recently learned to do tunisian simple stitch and I have some of that cotton yarn. Would that work? P.S. I had a dream of owning a fabric shop for quilting…but I don’t have the patience now.

Thank you so much. I have a sister that knows how to crochet, but said she do not know how to teach it to me or anyone else. I don’t remember where I got them from, but I have a few that I use to sat hot pots etc on. I would love to learn how to crochet.
