I love giving homemade food as gifts. As a thank you, teacher gift, party favor or just a little something for no reason at all. Some of my favorites are: homemade granola, cookies & strawberry jam. Today I made vanilla scones and homemade granola. The granola is easy to make and it’s always a hit when we give it out. Vanilla scone recipe will be posted tomorrow so be sure to stop back.
Homemade Granola
6 cups old fashioned oats
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
bag of dried cranberries
1 – 1/2 cups assorted nuts (I used sliced almonds & walnuts but pecans are great too)
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1 1/2 sticks melted butter
1/2 cup honey
Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Melt honey and butter, pour over top and mix until everything is coated. Spread on a large baking sheet. I use a Slipat (I purchased mine from Williams Sonoma). Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes, it should be fragrant and golden. I stir once or twice during the baking so it toasts evenly. Let cool and store in an airtight container. This will stay for about 10 days. Delicious served over vanilla yogurt.
