This sweet and simple DIY hear banner hangs on our mantle every February! You can make this with just a few supplies. Don’t sew? No problem, you can easily use fabric glue! I started with painter’s drop cloth for my background. It’s a nice neutral and inexpensive. I always keep one or two around for various projects. You can find it at any home improvement or paint store.
Decide how many flags you want and along your banner. I cut my bases 4″ x 11″ and folded them in half over the seam binding. You can use twine, ribbon or anything you want to hang the flags from. I stitched across the top of each of the flags but I’m still able to move them along the binding so I can put them where I want. I created a heart template by drawing a half of heart on a folded piece of paper (this way both sides are the same!). Cut out and trace the hearts on various fabrics. Cut out a heart for each of the flags and sew on or use fabric glue. You could always use felt for the hearts, or old sweaters or shirts!
See wasn’t that easy?
This project is from the archives of Hometown Girl and appeared in Holiday’s & Celebrations in Winter 2011.
This is so pretty. I made some bunting from scrap fabric a few weeks ago as a gift for someone and I loved it so much I didn’t want to give it away. I may make some more to keep, I like your “can slide it along” idea, feeling inspired, thanks!
This is so sweet and pretty! I have been thinking that I would like to replace the Valentine bunting I had made years ago. This is perfect. Thank you for sharing!
