If you have ever shopped for area rugs you know it’s pretty impossible to find an 8′ x 10′ for less than $80. I looked everywhere and had no luck. I was looking for the back porch so I wanted to keep the cost down. I found this neutral outdoor rug at Home Depot, pretty generic but I knew it would work for the space. I used some painters tape and black paint I had to create a simple border. Start to finish, it took less than an hour. Now my basic rug has a little more personalty. You could really create any design you like, unlimited possibilities!
I used a interior/exterior high gloss black paint and a 2″ wide foam brush. I found the foam brush was great for getting into all the fibers of the rug by dabbing.
