Ever wondered, what’s it takes to write a blog? What’s involved in the day-to-day? Before I began blogging seriously I didn’t realize how much there is to it. Sit down, grab your coffee and let me share my day with you.
Once lunches are packed and kids are off to school my blogging day begins. One of the first things I do is check my email and blog comments so I can respond to those. Then I share or schedule my post for that day on all my social media channels, FB, twitter, google+, Pinterest and IG (Instagram).
I see what’s due next. If I’m working on paid post (sponsored) I want to make sure those are done in a timely manner. I will see what’s on for the next week and prioritize the projects I have planned and tackle the list. I’m also a contributor for C&S so I have a deadline for those posts. I’m part of two groups (10 Minute Decorating and Farmhouse Fridays) those posts are all due on specific days each month. Since I’m part of a larger group and those people are counting on me those take high priority as well.
Once I have an idea for a post I’ll create a list of items I may need, prepare the project and photograph it when the sun cooperates (good natural light is key). Depending on how in depth the project is it can take many hours over the course of a week. Others, like a recipe, may only take a couple hours to get to this point. Bonus, recipe posts are dinner!
Most days I spend lots of time writing and editing photos once the projects are completed. This week I had my fist phone conference with a brand I’m going to be working with. That was pretty exciting. For a project like this, there are a lot of parts to it. I have to pitch my ideas, get them approved. Once we settle on all the details I sign a contract with them. I’m always checking on new opportunities for sponsored content with the media companies I work with. If I find something that’s a fit for Love of Home I apply, those are mostly on-line applications that I have to complete to be considered.
In the evenings, I work on making improvements to old posts, work on making the blog easy to navigate and visually appealing. I spend time linking to parties to share my posts to gain new readers and grow Love of Home. I read a lot. I read other blogs, books and am learning constantly so I can improve what I share with you all. My goal is to write helpful posts, ways to make your life easier, better, prettier or ones that inspire you so that you enjoy Love of Home and continue this journey with me.
I hope you enjoyed a glimpse into my day as a blogger! Part two coming soon. Do you have a question for me? Feel free to leave it here in the comments or send them to me at email@example.com.
