I have been on the fence about trying Essential Oils for quite some time. Today I’m sharing Why I Finally Tried Essential Oils. In some ways the Oils seem mysterious, but then we have no problem filling our homes and spraying ourselves with purchased items when we don’t even know what is in them and how bad they can be for us. Sounds kind of crazy right? Should be a no brainer?
The lovely and inspiring Edie Wadsworth who I have followed for quite a few years help to demystify the Oils. I came upon her blog when she wrote about how she lost her home in a fire. Her faith and warm spirit were incredible. She was a practicing family physician and is now home blogging, writing and a maven of the Essential Oils community. She loves them, uses them and sells them. I decided to sign up under her and not only to use them to benefit our family’s environment and health but hopefully share them with my friends, family and my readers too.
Here are a few take aways for me.
I thought I was doing a good job….I try to keep a clean house and feed my family good food.
What I didn’t realize was so many of things I was doing to keep our house clean was adding lots of toxins to our environment at home.
The commercial cleaners that we use are filled with things that aren’t great for our bodies.
Honestly, I never really gave it much thought.
Makes sense though. I would clean the shower, spray air freshener, light a candle and get a headache. I’ve never been able to take strong perfumes either!
I’m not an expert, but here is my basic understanding of what happens. The toxins block receptors in our bodies that are not meant to be blocked causing various side effects.
You can google toxins in cleaning products. You’ll have lots to read up on.
I’ve been reading and looking up ways to reduce and eventually eliminate all the commercial cleaners, laundry soap, beauty products etc from our home.
In many cases I found the use of essential oils to be an alternative ingredient that is natural and has other benefits.
I did my homework and Young Living is the company I chose.
They own their farms, they handle the process from Seed to Seal.
Their farms are organic and if you want to go visit them you can!
You don’t have to order a starter kit to order from them but if you want a variety of oils like I did then it’s the best deal.
The benefit of ordering the starter kit is that it allows you to become a wholesale member saving 24 percent off the retail price (no obligation to buy each month, it’s your option!). And it also alllow you the option of selling in the future if you so desire!
If you’re not as excited to try all the oils, that’s ok you can get the Thieves kit which is all about the natural cleaner! The concentrate cleaner does it all and you can make 28 bottles with the $22 bottle of concentrate.
I wanted to use them for awhile before I sat down and wrote a post.
I’m finding new ways each day to use them!
We use the diffuser every day. The kids have really embraced it too. We all have our favorite scents.
I’m using Lemon EO in my water every day (it helps to detoxify). The lavender I’m using with my shampoo, in laundry soap, counter cleaner. I’m using it on my son’s skin. It helps with blemishes and it’s worked great for him so far! The peppermint is so refreshing we’ve used that in our water, for headaches and to freshen our breath! The stress away is a combination that has pure vanilla and it’s my favorite. I roll is on my wrists throughout the day. I’ve never been a big perfume person so this is perfect for me. Putting the store bought perfumes on your wrists and neck like we’ve been doing all our lives is not good for us! Just google how does perfume affect your body.
My plan is to phase out all our cleaning supplies and soaps for either homemade or the Thieves cleaner. We buy all kinds of cleaners so I figure why now use my money to buy what’s better for us.
And to go all natural for our bath products as well, toothpaste, etc.
I’ve been using my homemade laundry soap for a few weeks and I made my own dryer sheets. I’ve also made a general cleaner and a counter cleaner!
I’ve made my own bug spray, dish soap.
I’ll be sharing my recipes along the way and a list of natural cleaning essentials that you can use with the Essential Oils (EO). You can see the posts I’ve done on EO here.
Interested in getting some oils of your own? You can find some information on the Oil here which also has a link to my Young Living page as well!
You can order from my Young Living page. *I will earn a commission on your purchases. (no extra cost to you!)
Have questions? I’d be more than happy to help and if I can’t answer I will go to my group and get an answer for you!
One last thing.
The thing I love most is that these come from the earth. Edie said it in one of her videos that they all come from God, so true! He gave us all these things that are right in front of us every day.
Thanks for visiting!!
