Ok, So I’m thinking some of you are going to think I’m crazy but that’s ok.
Why you ask?
Well for starters I know what’s in it and I want to continue to educate myself and share with my readers, friends and family about living healthier!
NONE of this junk:
- Aluminum. Aluminum is the ingredient in antiperspirants that actually clog your pores and prevents sweating.
- Fragrance (they can hide lots of things using the word “fragrance”)
This article by Time is worth taking two minutes to read. It listed the harmful ingredients in your regular deodorant and why they are bad for our bodies.
Here’s an excerpt from the article.
You wouldn’t swallow a spoonful of toxic cosmetic ingredients. But in some ways, smearing them under your arms in the form of deodorant or antiperspirant may be worse.
“When you eat something, it’s broken down by your liver and digestive system,” says Heather Patisaul, Ph.D., an associate professor of biology at North Carolina State University. “But when you put something on your skin, there are times when it can enter your bloodstream without being metabolized.”
Most of these ingredients are found in many of our beauty products, not just deodorant.
Young Living has aluminum free deodorant and I’ve found a few other brands but The DIY girl in me wanted to try making my own! If they turn out well I may sell them!
What you need: This recipe made five for me.
3 T beeswax pastilles
2 T Shea butter
1 C Coconut Oil
1 C Arrowroot Powder (note size of bags you’ll need 2).
1 C Baking Soda
5 drops lemon, lavender, Frankincense, and Purification YL essential oils.
Use a double boiler or a pan on top of a pan filled with water.
First, melt your beeswax.
Add melted shea butter and coconut oil.
Mix those three. Add your dry ingredients all at once. Stir until white and creamy and all melted with no lumps.
The last step, add the oils and stir.
Pour in empty deodorant containers. Do this quickly as the mixture starts to set up off the heat.

I created some cute labels. You can download and print them out to add to your homemade deodorant. I used sticker paper in the printer. Print and cut. They are long enough to go around the tube!
I plan to give to friends. Please don’t be offended if I give you one. It just means I value your opinion and would like your feedback :)
I’ll leave you with this.
Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Roman 8:39
